“Grief Isn’t Linear: A Testimonial to July” is an homage to July Muñoz, a dear friend of Emily’s who was also an amazing barber and fierce community builder for LGBTQ+ people in the Bay Area. Well loved by many, not only did she provide many queer and trans clients with gender-affirming haircuts, but she also championed lesbian/bi/femme-forward spaces during a time when many of those spaces kept disappearing. Emily’s essays about July are a powerful meditation on grief, friendship, and community.
